Broward County Relaxes Slot Machine
Rules
Slot machines have
only been running in Broward County for
four months and already the county is
looking to make things easier for those
who want to gamble. They are currently
looking at changing the rules to add
more time on the casinos so that they
can stay open longer and gamblers can
gamble more.
They are also considering adding to the
number of slot machines that each casino
is allowed to have, add new kinds of
slot machines, and add ATM’s to their
locations so that gamblers can get more
cash when they need it. The Florida
House Committee on Business Regulation
approved the bill, which will allow for
the casinos to increase the number of
slot machines from 1,500 to 2,000. It
will also allow for “progressive” slot
machines which will allow players to get
bigger jackpots as they compete for the
same payout.
Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach has
about 1,200 slot machines, Mardi Gras
Racetrack and Gaming Center has about
1,200 slot machines, Pompano Park
Harness Track is going to have at least
1,500 slot machines, and Dania Jai-Alai,
which won’t open until next year, has
not announced how many slot machines
they will be opening with.
The bill will allow the casinos to be
open 18 hours a day during the week, as
well as 24 hours for weekends and
holidays – quite an increase from the 16
hours that they are currently allowed.
It is currently illegal to ATM’s on
site, in an effort to curb gambling
addition – but the bill will change that
as well. The law has to be approved by
the Legislature as well as Governor
Charlie Crist – but many think that it
is pretty much a done deal.
