Casino
Night Raises Money for AIDS
Long Beach is the
site of a casino night that will raise
money for AIDS awareness, and has been a
popular event since 2002. It is also the
kickoff event for the AIDS Walk Long
Beach, that many participate in to help
raise money for the deadly disease. This
year the theme will be Casino Night: A
Night at the Tropicana.
The event will focus on the big band
Latin King era of Desi Arnaz and Xavier
Cugat, a time that will hark back to the
30’s and 40’s. They will have a Latin
Band, samba dancers, and will begin at 6
pm with a tour of the Museum of Modern
Art. Then at 7 pm the gambling begins,
as well as a silent auction. There will
be balloon rides, dinners, wine tours,
theatre tickets, autographed photos of
celebrities such as Halle Berry, the
cast of “Grey’s Anatomy,” the case of
“Desperate Housewives,” Peyton Manning,
tickets to see Ellen Degeneres, and
more.
Tickets are $50 in advance, and $60 at
the door. Last year more than 200 people
came out in support of the event, and
they raised $35,000. This year they
would like to see them hit $45,000, and
they think they stand a good chance of
it as the buzz has been loud for the
event. You can buy tickets online at
www.aidswalklb.org or
www.lbaidsfoundation.org.
You can also buy them at several area
locations such as Artesia, Hot Java, and
Hot Stuff Gifts.
Since their inception in 1989, the Long
Beach AIDS Foundation has raised more
than $2 million and will continue to
operate as long as the disease has a
hold on Americans. Long Beach currently
ranks second in California for HIV
rates, and they would like to see that
number drastically reduced.
