Tribes Bringing in Class III Slot
Machines
Oklahoma tribes are trying their best to
bring in as much revenue as they can for
their public school system. This means
that the more Class III slot machines
that they add to their gaming floors –
the more money for education. It also
means more money for them, as they get
the larger cut from it.
The Cherokee Nation’s Gaming
Commissioner, Jamie Hummingbird, says
that the number of Class III slot
machines that they have dwarfs the
number of Class II slot machines on the
premises. They say that more than half
of their slot machines are Class III,
and they have almost 2,300 Class III
slot machines.
They are not alone, the Muscogee Creek
Nation has Class III slot machines as
well, and they are located at their
Tulsa, Muskogee, and Okmulgee casinos.
They don’t have as high a percentage as
the Cherokee’s, but they are still
adding. They only have 98 Class III slot
machines for the almost 1,500 total slot
machines that they have on the premises.
The Osage Nation’s compact slot machine
numbers have risen as well. They are
offering about 35% of their slot
machines as Class III – bringing their
total of Class III to 1,019 out of a
total of almost 3,000 slot machines. The
Chickasaw Nation is the state’s largest
slot machine owner in the state, and
they have 35% of their machines
dedicated to Class III slot machines.
Considering the tribe owns 7,800 slot
machines - that is no small number.
