Jefferson County Will Be for Table Games
With the
four counties that are being allowed to
vote on table games gearing up for the
vote, some of those counties already
have the money spent if they were to be
legalized. Jefferson County is one of
those counties, as they already know
what they are going to do with the money
if they get table games legalized at
Charles Town Races & Slots.
The Jefferson County School System is
planning on adding two more elementary
schools to their county, as the ones
they have are already overcrowded and
enrollment will keep increasing. It will
cost about $25 million, but if they get
table games in the county they will be
able to afford them.
They say that since 3% of the tracks
revenue from the table games will go to
new school construction, so if county
voters approve the games they will be
able to get their new schools. If the
table games are not approved, they are
going to have to build the new schools
anyway, which means a tax increase for
voters. If approved, they would be able
to start construction next year on the
first one, and construction in 2009 for
the second one – with both schools being
completed by 2010.
The $25 million would include the cost
of the construction, as well as the land
that they would have to buy to put them
on. The school has not said where they
are planning on putting the schools
because they don’t want to drive up the
cost for the land. If the games are
approved, they will generate somewhere
around $1 million a year for the schools
– so they will have no problem paying
for them.
