PureDepth 3-D Slot Machine
PureDepth
has been known for the military
contracts that it has handled, and the
development of the various 3-D
technologies that are implemented in
top-secret uses for the government.
However, the company has recently added
a different kind of employer to its
roster, that of International Game
Technology, the world’s largest slot
machine designer and manufacturer.
In October, the two companies joined
forces to create slot machines that the
likes of have never been seen. They will
be creating digital video displays that
will completely revolutionize the slot
machine industry. With the new
technology, programmers will be able to
control every aspect of the slot machine
like cost, payout, images, etc. and
operators will be able to make real time
changes through back end servers.
No more cherries and bananas, you could
be looking at slot machines perfectly
tuned to whatever the theme or guest
artist is in the casino at the moment.
Oh look, Celene Dion is performing -
well she is also on the slot machines
instead of 777. They could win front row
tickets, anything the computer operators
want. They can even change how much each
slot machine is playable for – with just
a few keystrokes penny machines could
become dollars and vice versa.
Regulators are not as excited about the
possibility however. They say that the
new slot machines would be more
vulnerable to hackers or glitches. The
Nevada Gaming Control Board is known for
setting the tone for casino and slot
machine regulators across the world, and
if they are concerned, everyone should
be. They recently adopted new
regulations for digital slot machines,
whereas they must approve all software
modifications to the slot machines,
which can take up to 30 days to
complete. They don’t want operators to
feel that they can start changing the
slot machines without anyone watching
them to make sure that nothing illegal
is going on.
