Smoking Ban Starts

The new smoking ban has started in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and many patrons say that they could tell the difference in the air quality. When you go into the casinos, there are signs that tell smokers where they can smoke, and as you looked around you could see that most people understood the no smoking rule. However, every now and then someone would light up, and someone else would immediately tell them t put it out and go to a smoking area.

The new smoking ban allows 25% of the casino to be smoking, but the rest must be non-smoking. Visitors that were non-smokers said that not only could they tell the difference, they would be back again because it was now non-smoking. Several people said they preferred not breathing in the smoke, and that is why they would continue to go to Atlantic City instead of Pennsylvania because PA allowed smoking.

Even the smokers had very little to complain about. Many of them said that they preferred the non smoking, and that they had no problems finding a smoking area when they were ready to have one. A year ago NJ had passed a law banning smoking in public places, but had exempted the casinos from that law. Now, the city of Atlantic City has made that law stricter banning smoking from 75% of the casino.

The city felt it was a fair compromise between the employees of the casino and the casinos themselves. The casinos wanted no ban at all, the employees wanted it completely smoke free. As you went into the various casinos, there were signs about that said “Smoking Prohibited,” and so on. One customer said that it worked out really well for her as the place that she normally plays in was one of the smoking-allowed areas – so she was quite happy.
