Common Table Game Myths
When playing table games there are many
myths that float around out there and
many people take them to be the Word of
God. However, it is important to know
what will throw your game because it
just is not true, and what you can count
on when playing. One of the most common
misconceptions is that if you count
cards you can ultimately win the game.
Not only is this pretty much impossible,
due to the number of decks that the
casinos now use, but counting cards will
simply distract you from the real
purpose of the game. You can count cards
all you want in blackjack, or baccarat,
but considering the fact that most
casinos do not deal out all of the
cards, there really is no way that it
could be beneficial to you. You might be
able to count as far as to give yourself
a small edge, but most casinos take at
least half of the deck out of play which
shrinks that small margin even smaller.
No, roulette dealers cannot make the
ball land where they want it to. In
fact, roulette dealers find this rather
funny, since the ball is going one way
and the wheel another, which makes it
pretty much impossible. In fact, casinos
want it to be random so if they had
someone who did that they would fire
them.
As far as hot or cold craps tables, many
people believe that if someone is having
a streak that it will continue – not
true. Each time the game is played the
odds of winning are exactly the same –
each time is a remote play from all the
other plays. You have to remember that
the dice are thrown each time and each
time they could be something different,
so if a hot table stays hot for awhile
it is simply coincidence, and the same
goes with a cold table.
And finally, when playing blackjack, the
myth is that the third baseman should be
a team player and try not to hit when he
could be taking the dealers bust card.
By hitting, the player is helping the
rest of the table, and himself. The
player has no way of knowing whether or
not he is taking a card that could
possibly bust the dealer, and he doesn’t
know what is face down in front of the
dealer either. The player has to play
for the benefit of himself, and not
worry that he is “hurting” the rest of
the table by hitting.
