Aristocrat Still Stalling

Aristocrat Leisure, Ltd. is the world’s second largest slot machine maker. When people think of slot machines, it is usually the big names that you think of first – like WMS Gaming or International Game Technologies – but Aristocrat has been toiling away behind the scenes for a very long time.

However, they just announced their annual earnings and they say that there will be little change over last year’s numbers. This would be the third year in a row that the slot machine company did not have a large increase in annual sales.

They are reporting “in line” figures for the first quarter ending March 31st, and they say that 60% of their earnings are to come in the second half of the year. The company says that smoking bans have hurt them drastically.

They also say that North American casinos have been buying fewer slot machines, and the Japanese demand slumped after there were new rules passed cutting the amount that could be paid out. The smoking ban is what hit them the hardest though with their Australian sales.

They say that they are also battling a currency that has gone up 13% in just the last 12 months. Their shares have dropped which does not help them either, having gone down 6.5%.
