Woodlands Next in Line for Slot Machines
According
to Keith Kocher, Director of Gaming
Facilities for the Kansas Lottery,
contract negotiations regarding slot
machines between the them and the
greyhound and horse track were nearing
completion. He says that the ball is now
in the Woodlands’ court to see what
their response will be to the latest
offer.
The Kansas City, Kansas track has been
working with the state to try and come
to an equitable agreement that would
give them slot machines in exchange for
revenue sharing. The state would get
some of the revenue from the slot
machines, but the amount has not yet
been decided upon.
The Woodlands had asked a third party
consultant to investigate the idea of
bringing at least 800 slot machines to
the track. They wanted to know what the
market feasibility of such a move would
be for them and the impact on the state
that it would have.
According to the Woodlands they say that
they did have the study done, but they
were not aware of its conditions. Their
General Manager, Jayme LaRocca, says
that they were simply trying to figure
out how it would work, the feasibility
of using a temporary facility, and how
it would work out financial wise.
He said though that their goal was to
get the slot machines up and running
within six months. He says that as soon
as the contract is signed they will be
ready to go.
