Alabama Bingo Wars

Some people think that we have gotten away from the whole idea of bingo being played the way that it used to be. You would go and you had a card and some chips to put on your numbers as they were called – and it was a blast. It was a game played by kids with their grandma’s on hot summer afternoons when you were too tired to go anywhere else. Then at some point they added those stamp things, and you lined up your 500 cards and stamped all of them as the announcer called out the numbers.

Now this too, is a bit high tech for a lot of people – but how do you think they feel about the new bingo machines that are basically slot machines? Do you think that perhaps the game has lost its flavor? You bet they do, and they want something done about it.

Governor Bob Riley is one of those people who have had enough of slot machines pretending to be bingo. He has a new task force and they are going to get every last slot machine out of the state of Alabama if it kills him. This is making some people very angry as they say that they need the slot machines a.k.a. bingo machines to make their money. They say that people don’t want to play regular bingo, they want slot machine bingo instead.

But the legislature is trying to push through a bill that would make slot machines, or bingo machines, legal in several locations across the state. However, so far it has not passed. In Argo, 53% of their residents voted no for the slot machine bingo games saying that they didn’t want them – that they wanted regular bingo or none at all. It seems that this may be the way to go with the whole idea across the state. There won’t be as much money made, but then there won’t be slot machines running rampant across the state either.
