Finland Slot Machines
According
to recent reports,
Raha-automaattiyhdistys, otherwise known
as RAY – the Finland Slot Machine
Association, is looking to move forward
from slot machines and start exploring
other avenues of gambling. It seems that
they may be interested in online poker
as well.
According to Stefan Wallin, the Finnish
Minister for Sport and Culture, Finland
is considering branching out to online
poker as a way to make more money for
the country. Wallin says that they
believe they will be able to launch the
site before the end of the year, thus
adding poker to the already existing
slot machines.
RAY is a state gaming monopoly who
handles all of their current slot
machines, and if all goes well will now
be handling poker in addition to the
existing slot machines. It was revealed
that they have already gone through the
steps to ensure that they have all of
the necessary technology, and are almost
ready to launch the site.
RAY has the responsibility for the slot
machines currently, but casino and table
games also fall under their
jurisdiction. The money that comes from
the slot machines and other means of
gambling all filters down into social
and health care plans that are in the
country. They are currently funded by
the large amount of revenue that comes
from the slot machines, and adding in
poker will only make that amount of
money even more.
However, the country may have the
technology but they do not have
permission yet. They have permission to
run these items such as the slot
machines, but to expand gambling they
must get certain legislative issues in
order. If they are not approved by the
government then they cannot bring it in,
if they are approved to offer online
poker then they will be the ones that
administer it.
