Machines for Fraser Valley
Slot
machines seem to be breeding in Fraser
Valley, because where before there were
few, now there are more than you can
shake a stick at. According to recent
reports, not only are slot machines
increasing in massive numbers across the
country, but businesses are getting
smarter about how they package them so
that they can get them brought in.
Community bingo halls are some of the
worst – in that they are now
restructuring themselves into Community
Gaming Centers which means that they are
allowed to bring in slot machines. They
cannot offer other kinds of expanded
gambling, but they don’t care because
they know that they will bring in
millions just from the slot machines.
Under B.C. Lottery Corporation
regulatory control this is all very
legal.
They get permission from the BCLC and
the municipality and instead of bringing
in some money for the charities that
they represent; they now bring in much,
much more money. They are now moving
through the application process faster
than ever, and all of those locations
that were normally seen as simply a
place for fun and a way to help a
charity are now major gambling
establishments.
Not only that, but it does not stop at
these small slot machine locations.
There are also major plans by many
business people to bring in more full
service casinos that would offer much
more than just slot machines. Between
the larger casinos and the small slot
machine halls, the area and its
surrounding counties are being inundated
with slot machines and gambling.
There is a fear among residents that
with so much to choose from in terms of
gambling, that addiction will become a
major problem and that crime will
increase as a result of it. Each one is
fighting the other to try and get a jump
on the slot machine invasion, and the
residents are the only ones left
hanging.
