Machines and Smoking
There are
two things that seem to go together like
peanut butter and chocolate and they are
slot machines and smoking. For years
players have entertained themselves
while playing the slot machines by
smoking – and it was truly an accepted
practice. However, somewhere along the
way, people decided that this was not
the way it should be and started getting
upset about the combination.
Those that don’t smoke say that they
have put up with the smoking at the slot
machines for years and now that it has
become so apparent how bad it is for you
to inhale second hand smoke that they
should not have to deal with it anymore.
The casino employees are in agreement
counting off the number of employees who
don’t smoke who have been diagnosed with
some sort of smoking related disease –
and they don’t smoke.
So across the nation they have seen slot
machines disappear from casinos – or
they have seen smokers relegated to one
small part of their casino. But the
stakes are about to get even higher as
Connecticut decides whether or not to
ban smoking at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun
casinos. They may have been all for it
before they saw how much other smoke
free casinos have lost with the ban,
because now there are rumblings that
they may not be as behind it as they
were before.
Since 1993 the casinos and their slot
machines have brought in millions of
dollars for the state. But if the bill
goes through, as of October 1st 2011 the
smoking ban would go into effect, and
the slot machines would undoubtedly be
less crowded than they are today.
