Church Groups
Banding Together
There is nothing like slot machines
to get religions to come together – and
that is exactly what is going on in
Ohio. Several different churches and
religions have come together to keep
slot machines from becoming legal in
their state and they mean business. They
say that the governor is not acting in
the best interests of the residents of
the state and they are talking about
suing them as a result of it.
The Ohio Council of Churches says that
they are working alongside other
churches and faith based groups to keep
slot machines out of the state. They say
that it is “morally wrong and
politically untenable” for Governor
Strickland to bring in the slot
machines.
They say that the governor is going
against the wishes of more than three
million people who voted against the
slot machines. They say that they are
challenging the constitutionality of the
move and that even if they lose the
challenge they are still going to fight
them on where the money goes. They say
that if they are going to bring in slot
machines than more money needs to go to
education instead of a general fund.
However, they say that they don’t think
that they will have to worry about where
the money goes as they are sure that the
courts will side with them and see that
the slot machines and this move are
illegal and this can all be put behind
them. They say that instead of the slot
machines they would like to see the tax
cuts taken away as they say that this
will raise them an additional $2
billion.
