Slot Machines
May Not Save Them
According to experts it looks like slot
machines might come to the state’s
racetracks – but it may not come in time
to save
Raynham
Park from having to close
their doors. There have been a lot of
people in the state that have wanted to
see slot machines legalized and a big
part of that argument has been that they
have to save the tracks – especially
Raynham Park.
But
they are now thinking that even if slot
machines are able to come in at this
late date that it might not make any
difference. That the amount of money
needed to save the park is not enough at
this late date and that the money needed
to come sooner than this. The track
looks like it is going to have to close
their doors come January 1st
which would put more than 600 people out
of work.
The
problem is that even if slot machines
are legalized today – it will take about
a year for all of the licensing and
regulations to come through that it
would make it worthwhile. There will be
other tracks that will benefit from the
use of the slot machines, but not
Raynham. They will be closing as of the
first unless a large sum of money comes
in from another outside source.
But
the track says that even if the slot
machines were legalized and the track
was given a reprieve somehow that this
does not solve the ultimate problem and
that is how to pay back al of the debt
that they have gotten themselves into at
this point. They say that there are more
changes that need to happen that don’t
have anything to do with the slot
machines – rather there are a whole host
of other problems that need to be
addressed.
