Pennsylvania
Still Going Strong
According to the state of Pennsylvania there is not
much of a recession going on. While
other states are complaining about
losing more and more money every month
from their slot machines, the state of
PA keeps talking about how they are
bringing in more and more. The state
seems to have cornered the current
market on slot machines and now with
many of their casinos adding in, or
preparing to add in table games they are
really becoming a force to be reckoned
with.
While Atlantic City, New Jersey
flounders next door, the state of PA is
bringing in much more revenue every day.
Much of this probably has to do with the
fact that many of NJ’s customers were PA
residents who no longer have to drive to
the Jersey
shore in order to get their gambling
fix. According to the state’s Gaming
Control Board, PA brought in a 5.26%
increase in revenue during July as
compared to July 2009. They brought in a
record $116 million in slot machine tax
revenue – which is certainly nothing to
sneeze at.
The
Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race
Course brought in $23.8 million in July
all on its own. This is up from the
$21.1 million that they brought in same
time last year. According to the Gaming
Control Board they had a number of
people who were more than excited about
the table games being added to the slot
machines which is why they are showing
such a marked increase in revenues.
