Machine Bill Additions
First
the state of Pennsylvania decided that
slot machines should be legalized. This
alone was enough to throw a lot of
people into a tizzy. The fact that the
straight-laced state would approve slot
machines came as quite a surprise to
all. However, now that they finally have
one of their slot machine casinos open,
they are looking to the future and doing
it rather quickly. They haven’t even
opened a second slot machine casino and
already they are looking to bring in
table games and free alcohol to slot
machine players.
The
free drinks at the slot machines have
already been approved, but they are
still working on the table game
question. Governor Ed Rendell signed a
law this past week that allows the slot
machine parlors to give an unlimited
amount of alcohol to gamblers – which
goes against the state law that only
allows one free drink per person.
The Mohegan Sun is not opposed to adding
table gaming to the slot machines, but
it would have to be taxed at a lower
rate. Robert Soper, the slot machine
parlor’s president, said that the 55%
that is applied to slot machines is just
too high to pay. But otherwise he said,
“We welcome any legislation that
introduces table games. I think table
games bring a lot to the local economy.”
Rendell thinks that the idea of feeding
alcohol to the slot machine players is
fine as long as they limit the amount
they give them. He said perhaps there
should be a limit to how many drinks per
hour the slot machine players can get.
The Mohegan Sun spokesperson said they
are still evaluating whether or not they
will be offering slot machine players
free drinks or not.
