O Little
Slot Machine Town of Bethlehem
Philadelphia is not the only town
getting slot machine casinos, so is
Bethlehem. However, some are excited
about the prospect of having slot
machines so close, and others aren’t.
Many think the slot machines will do a
lot for the area, but others say that it
will change the way the world looks at
their town.
The old
Bethlehem Steel site will play host to
the slot machine casino, after years and
years of sitting empty. Allentown was
hoping for one of the slot machine
casinos as well, but their proposal
ended up being rejected. Many are happy
– they feel the slot machine casino will
revitalize the city and help with their
economy. Sands Bethworks won the right
to put the slot machine casino in, and
Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan could not
have been happier.
Still,
some say that for a town that gets much
of its current business at Christmas
time due to the name, they feel this
will cheapen the experience for
visitors. Proponents of the slot
machines disagree – they say this will
give people another reason to make the
journey. The $350 million project will
include a hotel, retail stores, a steel
history museum, and of course, 3,000
slot machines.
