$5
Billion Year in Slots and Tables
Atlantic City is looking at a possible
$5 billion year from their slot machine
and gaming revenues. Their slot machine
revenues have gone up 2.6%, but table
revenues are down 0.6%. No matter, the
casinos are still having a banner year –
and their slot machines are making it
happen.
Last
month, the casinos set a record in slot
machine and gaming numbers, up 1.6% from
last year. They took in over $400
million last month, with the majority
coming from their biggest money maker –
the slot machines. The slot machines
brought in 73% of that revenue. Their
overall slot machine and gaming take for
the year so far is at $4.8 billion,
which makes it look like they will go
over the $5 million mark for sure. They
won’t know if they did or not until the
end of the month.
"If
they keep up that pace, they will
clearly end the year with record
revenues," said Dan Heneghan, spokesman
for the New Jersey Casino Control
Commission, which released the figures
yesterday.
It
seems as though the people in Atlantic
City have been determined to bring in
more revenue and to differentiate
themselves from the other states around
them that are now offering slot machines
as well. With PA and NY offering slot
machines, the casinos in AC are looking
to make it more about the table games
and the experience of coming to AC.
