Downloadable Slot Machines

Slot machine manufacturers are always looking for new ways to improve the games, and they may have just found it. Downloadable slot machines are looking to be the wave of the future, and several slot machine manufacturers have already jumped on the bandwagon. At the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas last week, there were several slot machine manufacturers already unveiling their version of this new technology in their new slot machines.

Downloadable, server based slot machines – some are already on the casino floors. Harrah’s Entertainment has already put prototypes on the floor at a San Diego tribal slot machine casino that they run and manage. The idea is that instead of a standard slot machines, where the payout is programmed into a computer chip, server based slot machines operate the way online slot machines do. The difference is that land based server slot machines can be reprogrammed to variable payout percentages on some slot machines and not others.

Some companies such as IGT think that it is unwise to allow the casinos the ability to change payouts on slot machines as it could undermine the casinos and the slot machine manufacturers. There is a shaky trust issue in place between the slot machine casinos and the players, and if they think that the casinos are messing with the payouts on the slot machines they are not going to keep playing.
