Five Slot
Machine Licenses Awarded in PA
Pennsylvania’s Gaming Control Board
announced Wednesday the winners of the
slot machine casino licenses. With two
going to Philadelphia – it will now be
the largest slot machine gambling city
in America. They also rejected Donald
Trump’s bid for a slot machine license,
and told the people at Gettysburg that
there would be no slot machines there.
Out of thirteen groups of giants, five
slot machine licenses were awarded.
Neil G. Bluhm from Chicago and the
Mashantucket Pequot Tribe from
Connecticut were the slot machine
winners in Philadelphia – with Don
Barden from Detroit winning the bid for
the Pittsburgh slot machine casino
license. "We're thrilled and delighted,
we're very excited and we're going to
build a great project," Bluhm said. "We
want to do something really special
here."
Donald Trump tried for Philly and lost,
as did the Isle of Capri Casinos. Isle
had promised to build a new stadium for
the Penguins had it gotten the slot
machine license so many were surprised
that they did not win. Another group
vying for the slot machine license
wanted to put it near Gettysburg –which
people found sacrilegious in nature.
They were rejected as well.
The
board awarded 11 permanent slot machine
licenses, which allows each winner to
bring in 5,000 slot machines. Six of the
slot machine licenses went to horse
racing tracks. Two of those tracks have
already opened their slot machine
parlors – the Mohegan Sun at Pocono
Downs and Philadelphia Park.
