Not All
Slot Machine Players Will Get Free
Drinks
It
will be up to the individual casinos to
decide whether or not they will allow
free drinks to be served to their slot
machine customers. The state has said
that it is legal for them to do so, but
not all of the slot machine casinos are
comfortable with it. The Mohegan Sun has
already said that they will be offering
free nonalcoholic drinks to the slot
machine players, but not alcoholic ones.
The Meadows Racetrack and Casino has
followed suit.
They
say that they are going to have at least
1,700 slot machines by the time they
open in May, and if they were to offer
free drinks to every player it ends up
being a million dollar perk. They
currently allow free drinks at their
other slot machine casinos in Vegas, but
they are waiting to see how it might pan
out here. Bill Paulos, Principal with
the parent firm of Cannery Casino
Resorts said, "In [Nevada], that's been
standard business procedure for 50
years. We certainly don't believe people
are specifically coming to a casino
because they have free drinks. ...
Pocono Downs' business has been
terrific, and they haven't been giving
out free drinks."
He
also said that if the slot machine
casino were to give out free drinks they
would be hurting the local restaurants
and taverns who are not allowed to do
so. He said they might make free drinks
one of the perks the slot machine
players could choose once they wagered
enough money. They said that if the
other slot machine casinos start
offering it they might start as well,
but so far that does not seem to be the
case.
