Gras Slot Machines Hoping to be Open by
Xmas
Mardi
Gras president Dan Adkins is hoping for
an early Christmas present, in the form
of his slot machine casino being open
for the holidays. He would love to see
the slot machines open and running by
Christmas, but he has to wait to see how
the state inspection goes next week.
Having failed the first go around, the
slot machine casino thinks they might
have a better idea of what to expect
next time and thus be better prepared to
pass.
With
Class III slot machines up and running
for the first time in Florida at
Gulfstream Casino, the Mardi Gras people
are chomping at the bit to be open in
time to take advantage of the holiday
crowd. Each of the pari-mutuels in
Broward County that will be offering the
slot machines must go through testing by
the Florida Department of Law
Enforcement and the Department of
Business and Professional Regulation if
they want to open. They must pass the
testing of their employees and security
personnel, a total of ten tests for the
slot machine casino, before the public
can play.
The only
exception to the rule is the Seminole
Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and its other
two smaller slot machine casinos. They
are operating on tribal land, and
therefore are not subject to the same
regulations and inspections that the
other slot machine casinos are. Because
of this, the payout rates on the Class
II slot machines that they currently run
are not known. The tribe is currently
awaiting approval to bring in Class III
slot machines.
