Pennsylvania Slot Machine License
Contenders (Part IV)
Pocono
Manor has already been touted as the
largest slot machine casino plan in the
state, and will bring in 4,000 jobs to
the area. It will also bring in slot
machine revenues over $350 million – all
in a $3.1 billion project.
Their plan is an entertainment complex
that includes 3,000 slot machines at
first, but then another 2,000 slot
machines to come later on. They would
also have a convention center, roughly
2,000 hotel rooms, restaurants, and over
600,000 square feet of retail space –
all along with the slot machine casino.
''We're planning a world-class resort,''
said Greg Matzel, the New Jersey
developer who bought Pocono Manor.
Matzel believes that their slot machine
casino and their convention center would
take business from New York City and
Atlantic City as well. They are not
however, considered in the front
running. They have 3,000 acres to build
upon, and the slot machines will be very
convenient to major highways. Dennis
Gomes will be the operator of the slot
machine casino, and he used to be
president of one of their rivals – Aztar
Corp. He would become CEO if Pocono
Manor gets the slot machine license.
Matzel would become Chairman of the
Pocono Manor and Casino if they receive
their slots license.
They are calling themselves a
“destination resort”, and the slot
machine casino has received very little
opposition. They had three groups who
did not like the height of the slot
machine hotel/casino, but otherwise they
have gone on basically unopposed.
