Pennsylvania Slot Machine License
Contenders (Part V)
Adams
County seems like a terrible place to
put a slot machine casino, and many
think that there is no way that the
Pennsylvania Gaming Board would allow
one to go in. Adams County is home to
the Battle at Gettysburg, the historic
landmark where the North and the South
battled it out during the Civil War.
However, executives at Change
Enterprises seem to think that it is the
perfect place for a slot machine casino,
and they are betting that they get
approved – but their odds are listed at
99-1.
They have the most controversial site
for the slot machine casino, and many
feel that it would be sacrilegious to
allow slot machines by where so many of
our young men lost their lives.
Crossroads spokesman David LaTorre says
that for everyone that says they will
not get approved, he laughs. ''For all
those people who say we have no shot, I
have two words: Vicksburg,
Mississippi,'' LaTorre said, referring
to the Civil War battlefield town that
has four riverboat slot machine casinos.
''They've reduced taxes, rebuilt their
schools and rebuilt their town - not bad
for a town with four riverboat [slot
machine] casinos across the road from a
battlefield.''
However, the board is looking at the
fact that a slot machine casino could
ultimately bring in more revenue than
any other location. They have the
ability to bring in more than $320 a
year in slot machine revenue due to the
fact that they are so close to Baltimore
and Washington D.C. However, Maryland is
considering legalizing slot machines as
well, and if they do – Crossroads would
lose at least half of their revenue. It
is too early to say if that is going to
happen or not, but there are a lot of
people in Maryland pushing for the slot
machines.
Millenium Gaming Inc. would be running
the slot machine casino, and considering
that they are somewhat of a big wig in
the industry, they should do more than
fine with it. They are planning on
bringing in a minimum of 3,000 slot
machines.
However, by Christmas the waiting will
be over for the Board is planning on
giving out the slot machine licenses on
December 20th. So all the groups have to
so is just sit and wait.
