Philadelphia Park Slot Machines are Open
The
multimillion dollar slot machine casino
known as Philadelphia Park opened in
Bensalem yesterday – and no one was
happier than the slot machine casino’s
executives. They could be seen smiling
ear to ear as thousands of slot machine
players came through the front doors.
"This means thousands of new jobs,
billions of dollars of new investment
and a new entertainment industry for the
people of Pennsylvania," said Bob Green,
president of Greenwood Gaming &
Entertainment, the owner of the slot
machine casino.
The slot
machine casino used to be known as
Philadelphia Park, sans Casino. The
champion racehorse Smarty Jones made his
debut here long before the slot machines
did. Now, instead of just racing, it is
one of six PA tracks that will be
opening slot machine parlors over the
next 14 months. They won’t be the only
ones in Philadelphia with slot machines,
however. The PA Gaming Control Board is
issuing two more slot machine licenses
for two stand alone slot machine casinos
in Philly as well.
More than
50 people waited outside to be the first
to play the slot machines, of which
there were 2,100. With this opening in
Philadelphia, the state of PA is really
going to start giving Atlantic City a
run for its slot machine dollar. Many
there said that they would not be making
the trip to the shore anymore now that
slot machines were in their own
backyard. Others said they would do both
– because AC offers more than just slot
machines. They say that they can come
and play the slot machines at
Philadelphia Park because it is so
close, but when they want a real casino
experience including all the bells and
whistles and table games – they will go
across the bridge to Jersey.
