Plainville Wants Slot Machines
Because Governor-elect Deval Patrick has
appointed State Rep. Daniel Bosley to
the position of Chief Economic
Development Advisor, many in Plainville
are excited by the prospect that they
might get slot machines. While many
other slot machine proponents are
wringing their hands at the thought of
Bosley having Patrick’s ear, those in
Plainville are celebrating Bosley being
taken out of the Legislature.
Plainville thinks that by removing
Bosley, they have taken an obstacle to
legalizing slot machines from the
Legislature, and are considering it a
good omen for the town. They are hoping
that this will help in their battle with
the Legislature to approve slot machines
at racetracks, just like the one in
Plainville. They have been trying for
years to get slot machines at the
Plainridge Racecourse in Plainville, to
no avail. They think Bosley’s moving on
could mean a slightly easier battle to
legalize slot machines.
"I
think it will certainly change the mix,
that's for sure," said state Rep.
Richard Ross, R-Wrentham.
Ross is a big advocate of slot machines
at Plainridge, and represents
Plainville. He says the track needs the
slot machines to bring in much needed
revenue and boost the local economy. He
said that although he expects Bosley to
still hold some weight against the slot
machines in the legislature, he still
thinks that they stand a better chance
at getting them legalized.
