Machine Competition Still Continuing
With
Philadelphia Park opening southeastern
Pennsylvania’s first slot machine parlor
and the second one in the state,
Atlantic City has to be feeling the
pinch. Many gamblers say that they are
excited that slot machine gambling is so
much closer to them now, and that they
don’t have to travel to NJ in order to
gamble. However, there are still two
more slot machine casino licenses to be
issued.
On
Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Gaming
Control Board is expected to issue two
slot machine licenses for casinos in
Philadelphia. There are five companies
vying for the slot machine licenses,
with most looking to put their casino in
a different location from the others.
Trump Street is looking to put theirs in
Nicetown/East Falls, the Riverwalk
Casino is looking to go on Delaware
Avenue and Spring Garden, the Foxwood
Casino Project is vying for Delaware
Avenue and Reed Street, and finally the
SugarHouse and Pinnacle Projects are
both looking at North Delaware Avenue.
When
Philadelphia Park opened, there were
hundreds of people standing outside just
waiting to get their chance at playing
the slot machines. As of 7pm that
evening, more than 10,000 patrons had
come to play the slot machines. By the
end of the night the slot machine casino
had paid out more than $100,000 in
jackpots of $1,200 or more.
