Machine Casino Expansion
The
Mohegan Sun has announced their plan to
create $740 million expansion of their
slot machine casino that would include
poker and the House of Blues. They are
trying to bring in more clients to their
slot machines and think that with the
expansion they will have an opportunity
to do so. They think that they are
missing out on the market of people in
their 20’s and Asians as the slot
machines alone are not enough of a draw.
The
Mohegan Sun is currently celebrating 10
years in the slot machine and gambling
industry, and has roughly 10,000
employees. They expect to hire another
2,000 over the next five years. Their
slot machines bring in roughly $1.5
billion annually in revenue from about
35,000 daily visitors.
They
are adding a hotel, a House of Blues
music hall and hotel, a restaurant and
store. They are also adding a new Casino
of the Wind which will add 964 slot
machines. The casino already has 6,000
slot machines up and running. They think
the new poker room will bring in the
younger crowd as the slot machines seem
to attract an older group. They are also
opening the Casino of the Earth which
will bring in Asians with a Hong Kong
street food outlet, and table games and
slot machines that are themed
appropriately.
The
casino originally closed down the poker
room they had to make way for more slot
machines, but realized that with its
growing popularity they needed to bring
it back. They did not however, want to
reduce the number of slot machines that
they were operating, so they added on a
poker room to the expansion.
