Machines will Affect Sports Parking
With
Chicago developer Don Barden getting the
slot machine license for Pittsburgh,
many are rather unhappy about it. They
are concerned that in a city where there
is already very few places for sports
fans to park, by adding a slot machine
casino into the mix you are making it a
lot worse for everybody.
Barden
on the slot machine casino over two
other applicants, both of which were
planning on building in other areas of
Pittsburgh, but neither of those areas
would have been ideal either. The new
slot machine casino will be one block
away from Heinz Field, home of the
Pittsburgh Steelers. The slot machine
casino will be roughly five blocks away
from PNC Park, where the Pittsburgh
Pirates play. Both areas are so
congested already, that by adding in the
cars that the slot machine players will
be driving – an already bad situation
just got worse.
Many
think that the Barden proposal succeeded
for just that reason – that they are
going to build a slot machine casino in
the area that has the least amount of
traffic. The other candidates would have
built their slot machine casinos in
areas that are already overcrowded. They
say that since the Pirates have already
gotten most of their fans in the habit
of parking downtown and crossing the
Roberto Clemente Bridge to get to the
ballpark, that the addition of more cars
on the park side from the slot machine
casino will not affect them greatly.
