South African Online Slot Machines

Online slot machine gambling is illegal in all parts of South Africa – yet there seem to be ways around it. Since South Africa does not allow any slot machine betting at all, the fact that many are playing the slots online is perturbing to many and accepted by others.

The group Casino Enterprises has been fighting the Gauteng Gambling Board stating that they are in a jurisdiction that is not part of South Africa that they are exempt from the slot machine ruling. They claim that their online slot machine company is run out of Swaziland, and therefore they are out of South African jurisdiction. However, Gauteng said that since they offer slot machine betting to the residents of South Africa that they are in violation of regulatory laws.

Section 11 of the National Gambling Act of 2004 says that there is to be no gambling or slot machines in South Africa – and Gauteng says that is enough for them. Each side has won some ground in the slot machine debate, and they will surely continue to battle. In the meantime, it looks as though South Africa is going to legalize slot machines and online gambling, and is looking to issue their first slot machine licenses in 2007.
