Charles Town Supports Slot Machines
It really
shouldn’t come as any kind of a surprise
to anyone that those that have slot
machines, or those that support slot
machines, would give money to any state
that wants to bring them in. However,
what if that state is going to be your
competition for slot machine dollars?
Then it might seem a little strange.
However, that is exactly what happened
with Charles Town Races & Slots. The
company that owns them helped fund their
competition get slot machines. They gave
$2 million to Maryland to help them
legalize slot machines, knowing that
they would just be their competition.
Some say that the owners, Penn National
Gaming, Inc. just decided that if the
state was going to get slot machines
that they were going to get them, and
that they might as well join the
movement. They decided to give the money
to the group For Maryland For Our
Future, who was working on bringing in
slot machines to the state.
Many say that it was a smart move, as
residents legalized the slot machines by
a fairly large margin. They say that
Penn National knew that they would lose
money by the slot machines going in, and
since it seemed to be a foregone
conclusion, they should get in at the
bottom floor.
By supporting slot machines in the state
they will be able to offset projected
revenue losses at Charles Town. They
have made their interest in building a
slot machine parlor in Cecil County very
clear.
