Higher
Incidence of Cheating Online
Those
that play the online slot machines are
usually worried about cheating. However,
their land based casino partners do not.
They say that they are sitting there in
the casino so they aren’t worried about
who is operating the slot machine on the
other end. Online slot machine players
don’t have that luxury.
A recent report by 60 minutes showed the
problem that the online poker industry
was having with employees of the online
casinos cheating. They were hacking into
the software while people were playing
and looking at their hands. They then
fed the information to another player
who won the hand. In doing so they
bilked the online poker industry of
millions of dollars.
However, now online players are worried
– if it can happen with poker, why
couldn’t it happen with slot machines?
The online slot machines are simply a
computer program – why couldn’t someone
wait until it got large enough that it
was worth their while and then hack in
and take the winnings? They could
trigger the slot machine to make it look
like they had won.
This new report could possibly be very
detrimental to the online slot machine
industry, for people are already wary of
playing since the passing of the UIGEA.
If others start getting worried,
especially in other countries where
online slot machine playing is so much
more prevalent, they could be in for
some rocky times ahead financially. The
online casino industry is going to have
to do something, and do it fast, before
they start losing customers that they
won’t be able to get back.
