New
Hampshire’s Slot Machines
There are
some residents in New Hampshire that
would like to see slot machines come
into the state to bring in much needed
revenue. They have formed a group called
“Fix it Now New Hampshire” and they have
teamed with some big wigs to get slot
machines at Rockingham Park. Chairman
Chuck Rolecek says that they have joined
up with Millennium Gaming out of Las
Vegas and they are bound and determined
to get slot machines at Rockingham.
The gambling company has already pledged
$450 million toward the slot machines,
now they just have to get New Hampshire
to legalize them. The amount of money
that they could conceivably make from
the slot machines would easily be in the
millions – but it is not known exactly
how much until the state sets tax rates
on them. They say that their estimation
would be somewhere around $200 million –
but it could be more.
This means big bucks for both the state
and the track. Slot machines could bring
in valuable money in a time when they
are looking at major budget cuts. They
say that without the slot machines, they
are short around $250 million and they
won’t be able to make that up anywhere.
They know that valuable programs would
have to cut their budgets, and there are
some things that would have to be
eliminated completely.
The state’s residents would be looking
at higher taxes as well – so it is in
their best interest to vote for the slot
machines. State representatives say that
slot machines would be a bonus for them
because residents won’t want property
taxes raised, and raising business taxes
is not going to be a popular option
either.
