Are Slot
Machines Going to Pass at Arundel Mills?
It is finally time for
a vote on slot machines in one Maryland location. The state would like to
see slot machines brought into
Anne
Arundel
County, but
it would appear that there is quite a
bit of opposition from the residents of
the county. They had initially said yes
to legalizing slot machines within the
county, but now that they have seen the
location for them to go they have
changed their minds.
Monday night there
will be a vote as to whether or not the
slot machines will come to pass, and the
state is waiting with baited breath to
see what will happen. The County Council
is voting on a zoning bill that will
either move the slot machine project
forward or stop it in its tracks. The
vote has to take place soon though, as
they only have until Midnight to approve
the project. The state commission is
already in approval of the slot machines
coming in, but there is talk that it
might not pass.
The council is divided
on the idea of bringing the slot
machines to the location, and if it
passes it would be the largest slot
machine casino in the state. It would
also be right by the mall and is
expected to be up and running by late
2011. There is also talk that there
would be illegal table games –
electronic versions – if it goes comes
to pass. But if it fails, the state will
have to find another location for their
slot machine casino, one that does not
put it near the mall – for that seems to
be the biggest problem location wise.
If they end up not
voting on it at all and it expires it
could get very ugly as they would have
to go back to the drawing board with the
idea of bringing the slot machines in
there, and have to schedule another vote
at a later date. This would postpone the
casino indefinitely.
