Games Look an
Awful
Lot
Like Slot Machines
If it looks like a
slot machine, and it sounds like a slot
machine, and it plays like a slot
machine, how can you say that it is not
a slot machine? However, this is exactly
what a racetrack in
Ohio
is trying to say. They have brought in
new games that look just like slot
machines but are maintaining that they
are not the same kind of machine and
therefore they are legal.
Grove City’s
Beulah
Park has brought in more
than 30 of these slot machines that they
call sweepstakes games. They say that
they are simply trying to drum up
business for the horse racing industry
and that they are doing it through the
use of these legal games. However, they
maintain that even though they look,
sound and play like slot machines that
they are not the game.
They say that these
sweepstakes games are more like playing
the McDonald’s monopoly game – and that
isn’t a slot machine. However, the
McDonald’s game didn’t look or sound
anything like a slot machines, and it
certainly didn’t play like one. Some
residents are very upset because they
say that they have already made it very
clear that slot machines are not wanted
in their state, and yet here is this
track going behind their backs and
bringing them in and then trying to tell
them that they are not what they so
obvious are – slot machines.
The track said that
the state has not yet ruled on the
validity of sweepstakes machines, but if
they decide that they are illegal that
they will remove them from the premises
– as they will not break the law.
However, they did say that they are
trying to find a legal way for the track
to compete with the other tracks out of
state that are allowed slot machines.
