Illegal Gambling Leads to Probation
It could have been
much worse for Morris Guy Ramseur, 63,
of White Plains, New York.
Ramseur was sentenced in federal court
on Friday for running illegal slot
machines, and he could have gotten jail
time as well as fines and probation for
his role in the gambling business.
Instead, he lost some money, but jail
time was not in the cards for him.
Ramseur was running
illegal slot machines at several
locations within the area – including
the Lazy Lee Convenience Store in
Norwood, Kenny’s Restaurant
in White Plains,
Carlotta’s Restaurant in
Howell County, the Pumber’s Junction Convenience Store in Douglas County, and one more location in Thayer.
The slot machines that
he used were illegal, and they weren’t
his only means of gambling. In addition
to the slot machines he also had
card/pull tab machines, poker machines,
etc. that he ran out of these various
locations. The judge, US District Judge
Richard E. Dorr sentenced Ramseur to
three years of probation and told him he
had to pay $23,655. This final payment
would finish the $200,000 forfeiture
that he has been charged with paying for
running the illegal slot machine and
gambling business.
Ramseur would have the
slot machines in their location, the
players would win, and they would get
paid by the store clerks. He would then
reimburse them for any money they paid
out for a win. It worked perfectly until
he was reported to police and they
discovered his wide spread business.
