Owners Want Slot Machines
The state is wondering
if they should start offering slot
machines at their race tracks. There is
a big push for them from the horse
racing industry, and they have been
pushing to get this accomplished. They
say that the slot machines are necessary
for them to stay in business, and that
it is in the state’s best interest to
allow the slot machines to come in.
They argue that not
only do the racetracks offer thousands
of jobs, but they also offer revenue for
the state. If the race tracks go under,
not only is unemployment going to go up,
but the amount of money that the state
has to play with will drastically
increase. Instead, they argue that they
have a way of drastically increasing the
amount of money that they are able to
supply the state with – and it is in the
form of a slot machine.
In addition to the
money that they are spending at the slot
machines that is filtering down to the
state, there will also be an increase in
horse racing revenues. The slot machines
will do two things – they will increase
participation at the tracks, and they
say that they will also allow them to
offer larger purses, which will increase
the number of people that bring their
horses to the track.
Both
of these things lead to more money for
the track, and of course for the state.
They argue that the amount of money that
Arlington
Park alone would be able
to bring in would justify the move to
slot machines. They say that there are
no many smaller suburbs that are
deciding not to go with the video
gambling machines that they think will
bring in tons of revenue, that it is
worth looking at the amount of money
that the tracks are more than willing to
bring in.
