Proposal Rejected
In
what turned out to be a surprising turn
of events, the Slot Machine Commission
for the state of Maryland voted to reject
a proposal that would have brought in
millions of dollars more in slot machine
gambling revenue to the state. The
Baltimore City Entertainment Group had
asked for an extension for their
proposal to bring in more slot machines
than it had originally planned, and the
commission said that there would be no
more extensions forthcoming.
The
group had originally given the licensing
fees and paperwork to bring in 500 slot
machines. However, they had a lease
agreement with the city that said that
they had to have at least 3,750 slot
machines to be valid. They then asked
for an extension of the time that was
allotted to bring in a new proposal and
licensing fees for more slot machines.
However, they missed that deadline and
had asked for another one.
After
repeated missed deadlines, the state
finally said that they would not be able
to grant any more time to the group. Now
the site will open up again for new bids
next year to see if they can get slot
machines at the location. Many thought
that they would get the extension since
the commission had been so lenient up
until now, so it came as a shock when
they were denied it.
The
group can resubmit their bid with the
rest of the companies that want that
spot, but this was seen as simply one
more setback for the state who has just
not been able to gain any headway in
their attempts to bring in slot
machines.
