West Virginia
Voters are Ready for Table Games
It would seem that
West Virginia
is ready to take their gambling to the
next level. They already allow slot
machines across the state, but they have
been trying to get table games in, and
it has not been going as well as they
would have hoped. Many of the counties
and municipalities that they thought
were going to legalize table games did
not as their residents felt that with
the slot machines they had enough
gambling in the state.
But a recent vote has
residents allowing roulette wheels and
craps tables along side slot machines at
Charles Town Races and Slots. Voters
said that one of the biggest draws for
them was the ability to have around 500
more jobs come in, and they say that in
this economy that this is really
important.
They are also aware of
the amount of money that the slot
machines are already bringing in, and
they know that there is much more to be
made from the table games as well, so
they were confident in making the
decision that it was the right one for
them. Voters say that between the money
and the jobs, how could they vote
against them?
Jefferson
County’s
vote had roughly double the number of
people voting for them than against
them, which shows you how much faith
they have in the expansion. Some said
that it was simply a matter of seeing
how well the slot machines had already
done for them, and they were ready to
take on the table games as well.
