Atlantic City Has To Step Up Their Game
With
Pennsylvania bringing in slot machines,
especially in a town so close to
Atlantic City, it is no wonder that the
town has seen a drop in their finances.
The city saw their slot machine revenue
drop more than 7% for the month of
January, and that is an alarming trend.
If Atlantic City wants to keep their
figures up, they are going to have to
figure out a way to keep their clients
from going across the border to PA.
Many think that AC is going to have to
start offering more free rooms or show
tickets to keep their slot machine
players coming. They also say that they
are simply going to have to offer more.
The trend as of late has been to try and
make Atlantic City more appealing. When
people can just stay home to play slot
machines they need a reason to make the
drive to AC to play them.
They know that they have to give them a
reason – they have to offer them
something that other places don’t. They
know that they have the table games that
they can offer – but they need even more
to keep those slot machine players
coming. Some come for the spas, some
come for the restaurants, but AC needs
more.
Experts say that the city could break
even this year, but some think they
could lose as much as 5% of their
overall revenues, which would be
devastating to the state. For not only
are they going to lose slot machine
revenue due to the other states, but
they also lost the Sands Hotel and
Casino, which will hurt their bottom
line as well. They know that some of
that revenue will go to other casinos,
but some of it will be lost to other
states.
