Adding Table Games to Slot Machines is a
Mistake
With
all of the pushing to legalize slot
machines, and now table games, in West
Virginia, it is a widely held belief in
the state that they may be moving
forward too fast. The Lottery Commission
is already saying that they are prepared
to regulate any table games that are
authorized, and they say that they have
been ready for years. That means that
they have been pushing to give the slot
machines a little company for a while
now.
If table games are added to slot
machines, they would be placed at the
state’s four racetracks, as that is
where the legislature believes would be
the best place for them. The voters in
the counties where the racetracks are
located would be the ones voting to see
if they approve such an addition – but
many in the other counties say that they
should have a say as to whether or not
West Virginia takes the big step and
authorizes table games in their state.
For all of those opposed to expanding
gambling past slot machines in the state
that don’t live in those counties, they
are left to hope that the voters in the
other counties make the right decision,
but if they don’t there is nothing they
can do about it. Those opposed to the
slot machines say that they are aware
that gambling is legalized in West
Virginia – they say they know that slot
machines exist. But they say that to add
table games to the list would be
foolhardy and detrimental to the state.
Proponents say that the amount of
economic benefits and tax revenue far
outweigh the amount that the social ills
will cost the state. Opponents say that
the legislature is disregarding the
negative impact that adding table games
to slot machines will have on the state.
They say it doesn’t matter that it is in
select locations, for the social ills
will affect the whole state.
