Those Not Chosen for Slot Machines May
Sue
There
were several disappointed groups vying
for slot machine licenses when the board
made their decision public. The groups
not chosen for slot machines are now
trying to decide if they should file an
appeal to the board, in hopes that they
might change their mind. One of the
things working in their favor is the
fact that the people of Philadelphia do
not like where the board chose to put
the slot machines – including the mayor.
Various groups around the neighborhood
have already spoken out against the slot
machine locations chosen, and they are
looking for grounds to appeal the
board’s decision. They say that putting
two slot machine casinos on the
waterfront will make it a traffic
nightmare. They said that not only will
it “ruin their quality of life” but it
will also “endanger business in the
working port.”
Jethro Heiko, a spokesperson for Casino
Free Philadelphia, says that many
communities across the state said that
they did not want slot machines in their
backyards. He said Philadelphia was one
of them, and yet the state chose to
license two slot machine casinos in
their city. He said that not only did
the board not listen to the people of
the town, but they made Philadelphia the
largest slot machine gambling city in
the nation.
Donald Trump was also upset at the
Board’s decision, and said that it was
the governor’s decision, and they are
going to have to “live with it.” The
Board says that politics had nothing to
do with it, and that Governor Rendell
was not involved in the slot machine
decision process at all.
