Church Groups Opposed to Gambling
Expansion
Reverend Mark Flynn is heading up a
coalition that opposes expanding
gambling in West Virginia past the
existing slot machines. He and abut
fifty others got together at the Capital
this week to let the legislature know
that they are against adding table games
to slot machines.
The group says that the legislature is
trying to use the fact that many of
their neighboring states have brought in
slot machines to justify the fact that
they want to bring in table games. They
say that the legislature is claiming
that they are going to lose too much
revenue from the slot machines to
continue the way they have, and without
table games they will not survive.
Flynn said that the gambling industry
only cares about themselves and if they
are permitted to continue this expansion
the state will see the number of slot
machine and gambling addicts increase.
They say that the gambling industry will
only be here for the money and once it
is no longer profitable they will be
gone and PA will be left with the mess
to clean up.
The new table game bill has many
supporters including the racetracks and
local officials. The state’s Chamber of
Commerce supports the bill as well as
the horse and dog breeders in the state.
They say that not only will the table
games supplement the existing slot
machines, but they will also bring in
more games and higher incomes.
