Coventry Thought They Would Get Slot
Machines
Coventry had been one of the cities that
had been originally vying for the slot
machine supercasino that was just
awarded to Manchester. The city thought
that they stood a good chance at getting
the slot machines, but when the short
list came out and they weren’t on it
they moved on.
They then thought that they might get
one of the smaller slot machine
licenses. They are referred to as the
“large casinos” as opposed to the “supercasino.”
There were to be eight slot machine
casino licenses awarded, and they found
out yesterday that one was going to the
National Exhibition Centre up the road.
To make matters worse, the Isle of Capri
from America is building a slot machine
casino at the Ricoh Arena this summer.
That means they are pretty much
surrounded at this point for slot
machines, and their hopes of getting one
for themselves are getting smaller and
smaller all the time.
The worst part is that if the government
decides to award more slot machine
supercasino license, Coventry would have
to compete against the NEC. The NEC will
have 150 slot machines, and Isle will
have 20.
Coventry would like a slot machine
casino of their own, and are in the
process of looking into getting a large
casino license – and know that if they
want one they have to start lobbying for
one now. They know that if they stand
any chance of getting slots, they have
to campaign for them.
