Table Game Allocation Not Acceptable
Still
waiting to see if the Senate is going to
approve the table games bill, the state
is meanwhile looking to see how much
everyone is going to get of the revenue
from it. One city is not happy about the
formula that the state has come up with,
they say that they are not getting a
fair piece of the pie. The Kanawha
County town of Nitro says that the $65
thousand that is being allocated to them
is not acceptable, since that amount is
so low it won’t cover emergency
services. They say that the allocation
amounts need to be changed so that host
cities get more money.
Nitro is home of the Tri-State Greyhound
Park and Gaming Center, and they say
that Charleston is getting more than
$628 thousand, and they aren’t doing any
of the work. The town already gets
roughly $357 thousand from the slot
machines at the track, but they say that
isn’t enough. They say that they will
have to put out money to build a
substation for emergency personnel
closer to the track, as the track is
outside the city’s center.
The current formula has racetrack
counties and municipalities sharing 5%
of the revenue, and then the amount that
each gets is determined by how much
money the racetrack in their area puts
out and how many people live there. The
town of Nitro says that although they
are smaller than Charleston population
wise, they need to revisit the way they
are splitting up the revenue because it
just is not feasible to ask the town to
do everything they would need to in
order to get ready for table games for
so little money.
