Just What Illinois Needs – More Slot
Machines
Illinois is already one of the leading
states in slot machines and gambling
revenue, but it seems that they have
decided that it just isn’t enough. State
Rep. Lou Lang has released a statement
saying that he thought the state needed
more slot machines and casinos.
Lang has a proposal for bringing in four
new riverboat casinos – with one in
Waukegan, “potentially on Lake
Michigan.” This of course is new to
Mayor Richard Hyde, who was not aware of
the plan to bring in additional slot
machines or casinos. Lang has already
spoken to the House regarding the new
bill – called HR Bill 4840 – The
Gaming-Intercity Development Act.
The bill would bring in four new casinos
and allow slot machines at horse racing
tracks. Lang would like to see gaming
licenses in Chicago, with up to 4,000
slot machines or gaming slots. The other
three riverboats would be allowed up to
2,000.
The five horse tracks that would be
allowed slot machines would split 3,800
slot machines among them – paying the
state $50,000 per machine. Arlington
Park in Arlington Heights would receive
the most – getting 1,150 slot machines.
