Lady Jo’s Slot Machines Back in Business
Lady
Jo’s Game room is back open again, after
having been closed since December 2005.
The State Attorney General’s office had
closed it down along with several
others, when they determined that the
way they were using their slot machines
was considered illegal gambling.
Lady Jo’s customers are excited that the
room is open again, as it was a source
of amusement for many locals. They say
they are excited to have their hang out
back again. The only difference is the
way in which the slot machines are bring
run now.
The 53 slot machines that they have now
are more amusement type games. The slot
machines no longer pay out winnings,
instead they can get free games if they
hit the jackpot. The way the slot
machines used to work, you could win
free groceries at Publix, or gift cards
for Outback – but the state saw that as
illegal gambling since it had a monetary
payout.
Some of their clients say that they
thought it was more fun before, while
others say that they mostly came for the
fun of socializing anyway. The owner
said that they have informed the state
that they have reopened, and that they
have reformatted their slot machines.
The Assistant State Attorney Mark
Simpson said that he was reviewing the
information and that they needed proof
that they had in fact changed.
