Slot Machines May Not Run
The
new slot machine casino that was
supposed to open next week at Presque
Isle Downs may not now. The company has
said that they are ready to go, as is
their ad campaign announcing the opening
of the racetrack. However, the state of
Pennsylvania has some things that have
to be done on their end first, and those
things have not been completed,
therefore it looks as though they will
not be able to open.
One of the problems is that there was a
vacancy on the Gaming Control Board that
was just filled, and there is a lawsuit
pending against them as well. If things
continue to go the way they are, the
slot machine casino will not be able to
open as planned.
Former Bucknell University President
Gary Sojka has been tapped to fill in
the empty seat on the Gaming Board.
However, until his background check has
been completed, he cannot vote on
whether or not to approve the slot
machine casino. The background check can
take up to a month to complete;
therefore, the Gaming Board still has an
empty chair.
There is also a group called Citizens
Against Gambling Subsidies that is suing
the slot machine casino saying that they
should not have a license. As long as
the lawsuit is pending against the slot
machine casino they cannot be certified
– which is also holding up the opening.
