Slot Machines Dictated by Political
Party
Governor Robert Ehrlich, Jr. was a
Republican in a Democrat world. He
wanted to legalize slot machines, and
was rebuffed at every angle. It wasn’t
just the slot machines though, bill
after bill he had problems passing them,
or even getting them heard. However, now
that Governor Martin O’Malley is in the
same seat, it is definitely not hurting
him that he is a Democrat as well.
Many say that the way the government is
running these days has a lot to do with
the fact that the Democrats now control
the legislative and executive branches
of the government. They say that
O’Malley is getting exactly what he
wants, but they are also quick to point
out that he hasn’t asked for much –
including slot machines.
Slot machines were the bane of Ehrlich’s
existence, and he found it impossible to
get anything accomplished on them.
O’Malley has discussed slot machines,
but has not come out and said that he
will be pursuing legalizing them. He has
said that when the time is right he will
look into it but it is not on his radar
right now.
Even the Republicans have said that they
are willing to work with the Democrats
and with O’Malley as he has shown that
he is interested in what they have to
say. They say that party lines may soon
be a thing of the past in this new
improved government. This is an
environment that Ehrlich and his slot
machines never saw while he was in
office.
